Arthur William Fodouop Kouam from Sanya University’s Saxo Fintech Business School Presents at ICEME 2025 in Beijing
From July 11–13, 2025, Dr. Arthur William Fodouop Kouam, faculty member of the Saxo Fintech Business School, Sanya University, attended the 2025 International Conference on E-business, Management and Economics (ICEME 2025) held at the BJUT Sci-Tech Building, Beijing University of Technology, China. The conference was organized by Beijing University of Technology with technical support from the University of Saint Joseph under the theme “AI-Driven Decision Making in E-Commerce: From Data to Insight.”
During the conference, Dr. Arthur presented his paper titled “The Role of China’s Cross-border E-commerce in Boosting Entrepreneurship in African Countries: Evidence from Cameroon.” The study employed a mixed-methods design, combining quantitative survey data from 210 Cameroonian entrepreneurs with qualitative insights from 30 in-depth interviews. Findings revealed that Chinese cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) platforms such as Alibaba and JD.com have played a vital role in empowering African entrepreneurs through affordable access to diverse products and digital tools, thereby enhancing innovation and competitiveness. However, the research also identified challenges such as high transaction costs, complex regulatory frameworks, and market saturation due to low-cost imports.
Grounded in the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Diffusion of Innovations theories, the study contributes to understanding how CBEC can serve as a catalyst for sustainable entrepreneurship and inclusive economic growth in emerging markets. The presentation received significant attention from attending scholars, sparking constructive discussions on the intersection of digital trade and entrepreneurial development in Africa.
Dr. Arthur also engaged in academic exchanges with researchers from China, and Europe, exploring opportunities for joint research and curriculum innovation in digital economy and fintech education. His participation reflects the Saxo Fintech Business School’s commitment to international academic collaboration and to advancing interdisciplinary research aligned with the vision of the Hainan Free Trade Port and China’s dual carbon strategy.
A group photo taken at the conference venue commemorated the successful participation and academic contribution of Sanya University’s representative.
